As difficult as the COVID-19 pandemic has been on so many levels, there is a a new highway/bridge project that has given laborers something to be excited about.
On April 14, the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) awarded a highway and bridge expansion in Cabell County, West Virginia to signatory heavy/highway contractor, Triton Construction, Inc.
The project is valued at approximately $92 million. The roughly 3.5 mile stretch of I-64 between the 29th Street Bridge and the Guyandotte River Bridge will widen from two lanes in each direction to three. Both bridges will also undergo widening. Construction will take place in phases.
“COVID-19 cannot distract from the needs of West Virginia’s transportation infrastructure, and together with Triton Construction,Inc., we are proud to address those needs while creating good jobs,” said Eric Sharp, West Virginia LECET Representative.
It is estimated that the project will employ over 30 Laborers with LIUNA Local 1353 at peak construction.
